TAICHUNG, Taiwan, (11 January 2000) -- Just a few days after Ford introduced its new brand Th!nk, which focuses on environmental protection and non-pollution vehicles, Giant Manufacturing Co. announced that it will be producing the brand's electric bikes.
According to a report in Bloomberg Business News, Giant expects to produce an initial order of 30,000 bikes this year for Th!nk. Production will be limited to two models: a US$1,000 rigid frame electric bike with a 22 mile range and a US$1,200 foldable electric bike with a 16 mile range. They will be available beginning in June through a Web site at www.thinkmobility.com, stated the release.
This year Giant forecasts the production of 3.5 million bikes in its four plants in Taiwan, China and the Netherlands. The Th!nk bicycles will be made in Taiwan.
Last year Giant's consolidated sales were up 3% to TWD11.82 billion
(US$384 million). (JW)
