CHEPY, France (14 January 2000) -- Ircos is in the process of turning the former EGS facility at Chatellerault, France, into a Research and Development Center for the Ircos and Stronglight brands. Ircos managing director Patrick Büschel is currently negotiating with the parties representing the recently bankrupt EGS.
Mr. Büschel points out that the negotiations do not concern a complete takeover EGS's facilities. Ircos (which was formed by the management buy-out of SRAM France) already has sufficient production capacity, he says. In addition, the Stronglight acquisition provided Ircos with a distribution network that meets its needs.
"Our main objective is to use the former EGS facility to develop products for Ircos, Stronglight and our automotive business," says Büschel. "We have yet to make any decision regarding how to use EGS products like the Synchro Shifters." (JO)
