0 132 Home

BRUSSELS, Belgium--Denmark and Sweden are considering holding a referendum on whether to join the euro club. The announcement was made by the presidents of both countries during a congress in the German city of Kiel. Neither country has indicated when such a referendum would take place. According to the Swedish premier Goran Persson, his country is technically and economically ready for the euro. In addition to Sweden and Denmark, England has decided not to participate in the first rounds of the euro beginning in 2002. (JW)
