NEW YORK, NY/USA (21 March 2000)--On Monday US e-commerce giant Amazon.com announced that it had entered an alliance with Kozmo.com, a quick delivery service. The deal will enable Amazon to bring a selection of books, music and toys to shoppers in less than 60 minutes, according to a recent Associated Press report. Usually, the quickest deliveries come via overnight express, an option that carries with it a hefty price tag. Standard delivery takes three days.
Kozmo.com is a New York-based e-retailer that sells and rents videos and DVDs, as well as sells games, magazines, books and a small selection of food. All of its deliveries come within an hour.
Amazon.com invested US$60 million in Kozmo.com and could eventually use Kozmo.com's infrastructure to help deliver a selection of its own books, toys and music within an hour. Kozmo.com is available in six cities -- New York, Boston, Washington, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It delivers all its goods by messenger and does not charge a fee for delivery.
Amazon also has plans to work with other one-hour delivery services to meet the increasing consumer demand for instant gratification. (JW)
