NIJEHASKE, the Netherlands - The largest manufacturer of bicycle chains in the world, KMC, is expanding its storage capacity in Europe. KMC Europe, located in the North of Holland will have later this year over 4,500 kilometer of chain on stock and ready for delivery.

4.5 million meters of bicycle chain, equivalent to 4,500 kilometer, is huge. It’s more than the distance from the northernmost tip of Europe in Lapland to the southern tip of Spain! And that is all just in a warehouse near Heerenveen, Holland.

KMC Europe was established in 1997. Since then it has become the largest supplier of bicycle chains to European bicycle manufacturers. Next to OE deliveries, a big part of the stocked KMC chains are destined for AfterMarket deliveries to dealers and retail chains.

Due to the growth of KMC’s European branch since its opening back in 1997, the warehouse became too small. "In 2010 we had again a 35% growth," says Christ Bakker, CEO of KMC Europe. "But," he continues, "Here I must add that in 2010 we are dealing with a catch-up of 2009. In that year bike production in Europe dropped heavily and so our supplies to the bike manufacturers."

More about KMC’s expanded warehouse, which is expected to get operational by mid 2011, is in Bike Europe’s next printed edition with publication date of February 28, 2011.
