ST. GALLEN, Switzerland- Planet Sports, the new public sports show that was to be held this February, has been canceled. The two joint venture partners of the show project, Messe Basel and RLC Consulting in St. Gallen, announced what they called a "momentary putting back" of the Planet Sports Show due to a "date collision." This despite the fact that the Planet Sports exhibition was scheduled two weeks after Switzerland's top bicycle show 2-Rad in Zurich.
The main reason for the cancellation seems to be insufficient bookings, especially from the bicycle industry. Bikes were to be an important aspect of the Planet Sports show as the organizers were looking to compete with the country's traditional bike exhibition, 2-Rad. Now that Planet Sports is gone, the Swiss bike industry will again focus all of its attention on the 2-Rad show, which will be held from 16 to 21 February.
Another reason for the cancellation can be attributed to the new position of Michael Lüthi. Planet Sports's main promotor was recently appointed the new director of Shimano importer Cilo Bike Service. Cilo has strong ties to the trade association and VFGI, which is also a partner in the 2-Rad show. (PH)
