LONDON, UK (24 March 2000)--The Motor Cycle Industry Association Exhibitions (MCIE), organizers of one of the world's largest motorcycle exhibitions, the International Motorcycle Show in Birmingham, has announced the creation of an entirely new show for London and southeast England. The new show will be launched at Excel in London's Docklands in February 2001. According to MCIE, the new show will cater to, alongside motorcycle fans, commuters who want to beat congestion and cut journey times. "We are tremendously enthusiastic about this new project which will compliment our main show in Birmingham," said MCI chief executive Mark Foster. "We feel it answers a clear demand for a London-based show and caters for the two-wheel commuter boom in the capital."
More than 15% of all new motorbikes are brought in Greater London, and moped sale in the capital quadrupled between 1995 and 1998. (JW)
