BERLIN, Germany - Vivavelo congress invites the industry to take part in this national trade event from February 22 – 23, 2010 in Berlin. Renowned politicians are involved in the program to draw more attention the economic significance of the bicycle industry.

Vivavelo is a new national trade event in the bicycle calendar. The congress will take place in Berlin on February 22 - 23, 2010. The event is sponsored by numerous bicycle companies and other organizations related to cycling. The initiator VSF and the Federal Trade Guild Association appear as supporters on a good-will basis. The organization committee expects around 250 visitors to participate in the congress, 40% from the bike industry, 40% retailers, 10% media and 10% politicians. Professor Dr. Dr. Klaus Töpfer, who was awarded the “bicycle friendliest personality“ in 2009, will speak the welcome note.

Sustainable concepts for bicycles and cycling infrastructure are in the main focus of the two-day congress. People re-conquer their cities from a car-dominated traffic policy, and the Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LoHaS) shows to an increasing extend that health is in everybody’s own responsibility, so is stability of nature and the sustainability of ambitious developments, describes Mr Töpfer the guiding theme.

Especially interesting products will be presented in “innovation islands“. With the background of the bicycle being a significant but often underestimated part of Germany’s economy, a major goal of the congress organizers is to largely integrate political representatives into the congress program. In order to clearly communicate the interests of the bicycle branch towards politics and society, the results of the congress will be summarized in a final communique, which will be approved by a committee and be published through the media as vivavelo message.

A highlight of the event will be the award ceremony during which the “VSF Ethikpreis 2010“ will be awarded to the winners: Two companies from the bicycle industry who engaged themselves in an outstanding social and ethical manner.
