NUNSPEET, the Netherlands - Shimano Europe BV implements two new product teams of experienced Shimano employees to co-ordinate the development of innovative technology for the Shimano and PRO brands. One of their most important roles will be to stay in close contact with the market (OEM, distributor, dealer, consumer as well as the professional racing scene) to be able to give a detailed analysis of new product requirements to the engineering team.
Bas van Dooren is the new Manager Product Coordination for Shimano products, including components, wear-out parts, wheels, shoes and pedals. Bas has a lot of experience within the bike industry. He started working for Shimano in 2002 as a Sales Representative and in the previous 5 years he has been an OEM Sales Manager for the Benelux and northern Germany.
Bas belonged during his sportive career to the international top in Cross Country racing, with amongst others two World Cup victories and an 11th position at the Olympics in Sydney 2000.
Bas is being supported by three experienced product coordinators: Hisataka Takada (wear-out parts), Tim Gerrits (components) and Walter Vrijkorte (shoes, wheels and pedals) who have all been working for Shimano already for many years.
PRO product team
Marcel Gerritsen is appointed as Team Leader Product Development and Coordination for all PRO products. PRO is a registered cycling accessories brand, owned by Shimano Inc. and meeting its quality standards. Management and R&D are carried out by the Shimano Europe head office in The Netherlands.
Marcel has also a lot of experience within the bike industry too. He has been working for Shimano since 1998 as a Technical Representative and started as Product Manager for PRO in 2001. He excelled as a top level mountain biker and cyclo-cross racer during his sportive career. One of the highlights was his silver medal at the world championships Cross Country racing in Métabief, France in 1993.
Marcel is being supported by an experienced and enthusiastic team, consisting of the product developers Leon van Strien, Bas Schaapveld and Anton Nijhuis as well as the product coordinators Ezechiël Kruijer and Arnold Tuinman.
