ORONO, USA - An international group of LEVA (Light Electric Vehicle Association) members have worked over the past 18 months to create a new Performance Standards for e-bikes. This new Performance Standards includes a guide and label that provides information for consumers to compare and shop for electric bicycles.
“We are excited to announce new universal performance standards for the light electric vehicle industry,” said Ed Benjamin, LEVA President. “The performance standards will help consumers choose electric bicycles that meets their needs. The Performance Standards are the first-ever published standards for the global electric bike industry.”
Performance data is calculated on test bench using Triple S test protocol to ensure equal results for different bike models. The performance data includes a simulated city course with multiple stop and go’s, a simulated 4% hill climb and an acceleration profile.
The LEVA Performance Standards Guide is designed to give direction to consumers and answer questions about e-bike performance. An online version of the guide will allow consumers to input their own travel route data to receive personalized range estimates.
