MEDELLIN, Columbia - For the second year in a row, Shimano’s importer in Colombia, HA Bicicletas booked double digit growth in turnover. A recent report on the sports and toys industry in this South American country gives an interesting insight in the state of affairs with regards to cycling.
In 2010 HA Bicicletas saw an increase in turnover of 21.3% from the previous year to €43.7 million. In 2009 this company already booked a growth in turn-over of 18.2%. Besides importing Shimano, HA Bicicletas also represents other well known brands in the bicycle industry such as Pro, Hutchinson, SR Suntour Ritchey, Sigma Sport and KMC.
Besides a wide range of bicycle accessories and components, HA Bicicletas is also distributing its own bicycle program branded GW, as well as motorcycles. Trek and Bell importer Bike House saw its turn over growing by 12.7% to €5.5 million. Next to Trek and Bell, the Bike House is also a distributor for Answer, Saris, Blackburn, BH Fitness, Bontrager, Continental and Cyclops.
Less positive results were shown by Bicicletas Santour, a company aimed at distributing and marketing products from Asia, offering a wide range of products for bicycles and motorbikes, components as well as accessories. They saw their turn-over decline by a modest 1.8% over 2010 to €4.8 million.
