HANNOVER, Germany (31 March 2000)--On 29 March German sporting good giant
Karstadt relocated its Karstadt Sport outlet in Hannover to a new and larger building. According to Michael Scheibe, the company's PR manager, the Hannover outlet is the second largest sporting goods retailer store in Europe. Karstadt also can boast of the largest sporting goods retailer store in Europe; reopened last November in Hamburg. The Hannover site called for an investment of some DEM30 million.
Of the new site's 7,300 square meters of sales space, 1,000 is devoted to bicycles and bicycle parts, accessories and apparel. Karstadt is selling bicycle products in all its 24 Karstadt Sport outlets and in several of its 170 sporting goods divisions located in Karstadt department stores. The company offers several A-brands like Scott USA and Dahon alongside its own house brands Alex (sportive bikes),Torpedo (city bikes), Tokaido and Condor (both offer mid-price range bikes). (JB)
