VILLENEUVE D`ASCQ, France – To facilitate growth on the German market, retail giant Décathlon has planned to open a 30,000 square meters distribution center in Schwetzingen, not too far from the French border. The first section of warehouse is set to be ready within one year from now.
Décathlon decided to improve its logistics in Germany and to invest some €40 million as three more shops are in the pipeline for a startup later this year. One of them will be a 2,400-square-meter store scheduled to open in mid-2012 at Dessau. It will be the first one in the former East Germany. The other two will be a 3,300 square meter store in Hagen and a 4,000 square meter unit in the Rathausgalerie of Essen.
After adding these three stores, Décathlon claims a total retail surface of 63,600 square meters in Germany. It is said that Décathlon is also looking for store locations in the areas of Koblenz, Augsburg and Mönchengladbach.
At the moment Décathlon runs 14 stores in Germany.
