CEN Standard for e-Bikes Only Months Away
BRUSSELS, Belgium – Last week the Technical Committee TC 333 met in Brussels to discuss the final details on the CEN standard for pedelecs. “Currently the draft of the EPAC (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles) standard is finalized”, said Siegfried Neuberger, chairman of this committee.
"We hope that the document can be sent out for the final vote in summer by the CEN members in order to be ratified in September/October.” Publication in the Official Journal will follow suit and with that the CEN standard for e-Bikes will go into force.
The new standard EN 15194 for EPACs will be sixth CEN standard related to bicycles. Next to the Safety Standard for pedelecs the Technical Committee TC333 is also working on EN 15496 for cycle locks; on EN 15532 for cycle terminology while new projects are bicycle trailers and BMX bikes.
