THE HAGUE, Netherlands-Today (15 December) mopeds in the Netherlands are no longer allowed to ride on cycle paths. With this measure the Dutch government expects the number of accidents to drastically reduce.

Annually, 75 people are killed and 2000 wounded on Dutch bike paths. The main reason for the accidents is the high difference in speed between mopeds and bikes. The new measure requires mopeds to ride on normal roads within city limits. (JW)
