NEW DELHI, India (22 February 2000)–The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) took a landmark initiative to improve air-quality in Delhi and announced emission warranty of 30,000 kilometers for all two-stroke two-wheelers fitted with catalytic converters sold in Delhi, effective immediately. This is the most progressive warranty in the world.
“The car industry has taken the lead in emission management,” said SIAM president Venu Srinivasan, adding that banning two-stroke technology would raise overall prices and have a negative economic impact on much of the working population that depends on these models for transportation.
The Delhi-based Center for Science and Environment (CSE) applauded SIAM’s move to take responsibility for two-stroke emissions. (SH)
