ESSEN, Germany (25 May 2000)–The German Karstadt-Quelle conglomerate, one of the leading German retail and mail order giants, announced the creation of a new subsidiary named Karstadt-Quelle New Media AG. This company will be responsible for electronic sales for the rising B2B and B2C e-commerce business. First step of the new company is to renew the virtual Karstadt department store ‘my world’ and to put it under the name ‘karstadt.de’. In addition, the company will create a new e-commerce business named ‘karstadtsport.de’. With its e-business Karstadt, as one of the leading sporting goods giants, wants to create a platform for their e-commerce sporting goods business. Moreover, Karstadt-Quelle, which owns the music store chain World Of Music (WOM), will also be able to utilize its own distribution through the Net. Both Karstadt Sport outlets and Quelle’s mail order business are selling bicycles, parts, bikewear and accessories. (JB)
