ZURICH, Switzerland(22 May 2000)–On Sunday two thirds of Swiss citizens voted to work more closely economically with the European Union. Every large political party, businesses and trade unions all rejoiced at the vote’s outcome, stating that the agreement is of the utmost importance for the livelihood of Switzerland’s seven million citizens. The official result of the referendum indicates that 67.2% of the voters opted for the treaties. (JW)
