TAIPEI, Taiwan (6 June 2000)–According to a survey by the Chinese Youth Internet Association, 66% of university students polled said that the Internet has changed their lives, Over 70% of the students believed that the Internet will affect their future, and over 60% said the Internet was an indispensable tool for their lives.
The results of the poll of 700 Chinese college students also show that they spend an average of one hour per day online. But individual online times varied widely, with over 40% of the students spending an average of 10 hours a day on the Internet.
Forty-seven percent of the students polled said their primary use of the Internet is to search data or documents, while 32% said that they went online to receive and transmit e-mail. Thirty-six percent said that they most often surfed to websites devoted to entertainment. Second most popular were portals (29%), followed by e-mail websites (25%). (JW)
