WATERLOO, Wis/USA (26 June)-Nike and Trek have agreed to enter into a partnership for the manufacturing and distribution of cycling shoes, apparel and Tour de France Promotional Wear. The partnership involves that Trek Bicycle Corp. will license and manufacture the Nike cycling footwear and apparel. The long-term licensing agreement enables Nike to deliver Nike-branded cycling gear through Trek’s distribution networks in 65 countries. The design process for both footwear and apparel will be a collaborative effort driven by Nike and utilizes input drawn from Trek’s cycling experts.
Retailers and consumers can expect to find redesigned Nike cycling footwear as early as spring of 2001 in the form of a road cycling line. A mountain bike line will hit the stores of in the fall of 2001. The first licensed apparel offering will be a new category of Tour de France specific clothing scheduled to hit retailers in early July. (JO)
