TAICHUNG HSIEN, Taiwan (21 December) – In November, Kinesis Industrial for the first time produced more than 100,000 aluminum bicycle frames (Guangzhou 88,480 units, Taiwan 10,709, and US 1,827, totaling 101,016 frames). During the past 11 months, Kinesis Industrial produced a total of 870,000 bicycle frames and more than 60,000 front forks, totaling a total net income of US$28.30 million, or 13% up on the 1999 figures.
Kinesis Industrial Corp. was granted recently an ISO 9002 certification. The Guangzhou (mainland China) plant of Kinesis is expecting its accreditation for the ISO certification. The performance of Kinesis in Mainland China had to cope with a new problem: manufacturers of mini-scooters are frantically scouting for skilled welders, and the aluminum alloys used for framebuilding are scarce.
In Taiwan, a new plant of 116,000 m² is under construction and will be in use from the end of March 2001 on. Kinesis Industrial will go public, but in view of the fact that stocks in Taiwan are crashing (with the exception of information technology), Kinesis president Tom Jeng does not rule out the possibility of listing in other countries.
