BIELEFELD, Germany (31 January) – German bicycle mail order and B2C-supplier Bicycles, will open several outlets within the first quarter of 2001. The company’s fourth IBD outlet will open on 1 February in Ca’n Picafort, Mallorca, the first Bicycles outlet outside Germany. On February 16, another outlet will open in Frankfurt and on 9 March, another in Cologne. The outlet on Mallorca will have 500 square meters of space in the four star Gran Vista Hotel where it will mainly serve the huge numbers of German winter tourists. Stefan Kleinschmidt financial manager for Bicycles states, “Of course the Mallorca outlet won’t only serve the customers of the Gran Vista hotel. And it cannot offer the 8,000 products we offer here through our mail order and B2C-business; but it has all products that bicyclists need for their sport. We are also counting on bicycle rentals and sales from our private label Too Danger.” Since the beginning of this year, Bicycles and its outdoor sister company Sine have been doing business under the new name Yeah! AG. Kleinschmidt confirms that both the Bicycles and Sine outlets will remain independent. Currently Bicycles runs six outlets and Sine three. In 2000 Bicycles had total sales of DEM 19 million incl. DEM 4.5 million in e-commerce sales; making the Bielefeld-based company “the leading virtual IBD store in Europe”, says company president Axel Böse. (JB)
