CHÉPY, France (january 15) — Last week the SRAM European headquarters broke its supply contract with IRCOS, the French production company in Normandy and St. Etienne, which makes SRAM derailleurs, hubs and sprockets. According to SRAM Europe director Martin van Beek, IRCOS did not come up to its contractual obligations. IRCOS GM Bruno Mallet does not deny that the young company has had problems to finance the volumes required by SRAM. In the meantime, SRAM gives its OEM customers the advice to order the French-made parts directly from IRCOS. IRCOS is entitled to use the SRAM product names until end of june. Before that time, IRCOS hopes to reach a new agreement with SRAM for the use of its names. Both SRAM and IRCOS deny that SRAM’s sudden movement has anything to do with the opening of a new SRAM factory in China. (OB)
