TAIPEI, Taiwan (24 January) -At the time of the Chinese New Year, it is customary for parents to shower their children with red envelopes full of cash. In Asia’s corporate family tree, this year’s big gift recipient is Yamaha Motor Taiwan Company. Just before the lunar new year, the company announced plans for an TWD 100 million (US$3.0mn;EUR3.3mn) expansion project beginning this year, with investment funds coming from its parent company, Yamaha of Japan. By upgrading R&D facilities and expanding production lines for motorcycles with engines of 150cc and smaller, Yamaha Taiwan will be able to increase exports, including exports back to Japan and eventually also Europe, said company officials.
