JARGEAU, France (7 March) – French bicycle accessory expert Zéfal has acquired St.Etienne-based bicycle parts maker Stronglight from the now defunct Ircos which was itself bought out by Mars Industry.According to a Zèfal press release, “The addition of Stronglights will greatly increase the strength of Zéfal in conquering the global after market.” Located in Jargeau, Zéfal manufactures a wide range of bicycle pumps, bottles, bottle cages, bags, fenders, racks and lights. It employs 250 people and has an annual income of about FRF 150 million (US$21mn;EUR23mn). Stronglight will continue to produce cranksets, headsets, pedals, hubs and brakes. According to Zéfal the new subsidiary will maintain its own operational structure for production, administrative services and sales force. Stronglight employs 55 people and has an annual turnover of about FRF 28 million (US$3.9mn;EUR4.2mn). About two years ago bicycle and automobile part maker Ircos acquired Stronglight but encountered problems soon after, Ircos was itself bought out by Mars Industry recently.
