BARCHFELD/THÜRINGEN, Germany (April 10) – Erhard Büchel and Gerd Röder opened their new factory plus warehouse in Barchfeld, Germany. After Marwi stopped its spoke production and also Union stopped operations in Germany the two partners decided in December 1999 to invest in a new factory for bicycle components and a new warehouse. The new 8,000 m² plant produces spokes, nipples, luggage carriers, mudguards, lightning sets etcetera. The partners Büchel and Röder call their components ‘anonymous parts of the bicycle’ which they want to supply just-in-time within a 1,000 km circle of Barchfeld. Customers include Biria, the new Diamant Werke in Chemnitz, Mifa, Zweirad Nordhausen and Sprick. The Barchfeld plant of Büchel & Röder employs 112 people. Next to the Barchfeld plant Büchel and Röder also operate their own wholesale dispatch company TFV, a production site in Zella-Mehlis, a saddle factory in Mühlhausen, a production site in Rothenburg/Saale for wire and wire mesh products (carriers and baskets), a joint venture with a Chinese company in Shanghai and a daughter company in Latvia for metal parts, and further sources in Italy.
