DELFT, Netherlands – Dutch machine builders Stork and the Technical university Delft have developed a composite material from aluminum filaments, glass fibre and an epoxy-like matrix. The new material is called Glare, and its prime application is strong containers for explosive airfreight. It was developed on invitation from the USA Federal Aviation Authority. Other possible apllications could be safety wear and possibly bicycle frames, taking the specific weight in account. Nothing can yet be said about the bulk price. (OB)
