STANFORD, US. (2 july) – According to US magazine ‘Bicycle Retailer & Industry News’ Derby-USA will shelve the Univega bicycle brand for the USA. Derby-USA will concentrate on its Raleigh and Diamondback brands. This step won’t have any influence on the European business of the Univega brand. According to Stefan Schaer, general manager of Univega-Europe, they will not only continue but even increase their business. First step is to separate the German headquarters’ warehouse and administration & sales office. The current headquarters in Kirchheim will be closed. On 1 August the administration & sales office will move to Riemerling/Ottobrunn near Munich. The warehouse will move to Erfurt which according to Schaer is more “centralized to the market”. Currently about 80% of the Univega-Europe business is done on the German-speaking market. About one third of the Univega bikes for the European market are made by Derby-Germany in Cloppenburg and two thirds in the Far East.(JB)
