ANTWERP, Belgium (November 13) – Alesa Rims, part of the Van Schothorst/Rigida holding, has filed for suspension of payment. Like the French rim makers Rigida (equally belonging to Van Schothorst/Rigida holding), Alesa experiences the effects of a decreased production of medium-range bicycles. For the moment, production is continued. Alesa employs 80 people. The trustees of Alesa Rims are investigating the possibility of a management buyout, which gets all support from the holding.
As reported on this website on October 8, Rigida in France is still in ‘cessation de payement’ and is in the process of reorganizing while production goes on. In France, the reorganizing phase is financially supported by the government for reasons of employment. The reorganization implies a shift towards a greater capacity in complete wheels, a shift from medium to high-end products and the necessary re-tooling. After the reorganization will be finished, the Rigida factory in Noyons will employ 50 instead of its present 80 people. (OB)
