KARLSRUHE, Germany (February 12) – The management of SVB-Fahrradtechnik GmbH, owners of the Votec brand, have applied for Insolvency at the Court of Karlsruhe, Germany. Mr. Schmidt-Thieme of the solicitor’s office Hack & Hoefer has been appointed as receiver. Votec makes high- end mountainbikes for the non-competition market, meant for those who can afford an expensive bike with lush comfort and leisure properties. Votec has developed to a well-known brand name with home-made products (frames and suspension forks Made in Germany). Other prestigious label-brands like Porsche (and previously BMW) have been mentioning Votec with appropriate pride as a source of their lifestyle bicycles. With such customers, Votec grew energetically, and now employs 60 people. Reportedly, there have been frictions within the two-man board. It seems a question of time before Votec will make a re-start. (OB)
