SASSENAGE, France (October 7) – Groupe Go Sport saw its first half net sales marginally increase by 1.1% to € 290 million. On a same store basis sales shrank 4.3%. Especially Go Sport stores witnessed a 2.4% decline, due soft apparel sales. Net income fell to € 0.9 million from € 1.5 million one year ago. Go Sport banner store sales in France declined 8%, while its Belgian and Polish store sales shrank 8.7%. Its Courier and Moviesport store sales increased 15.7% and 9.4% respectively. Overall net sales margin increased 1.4% to 44.1% or € 127.9 million excluding VAT. Total sales increased 2.5% during the first 8 months of this year.
During the past first half-year the Group opened 5 new outlets (3 Go Sport, 2 Courir) and closed its Go Sport store at Antwerp, Belgium, while renovating premier stores at Paris La Defense and Lyons. In total the Go Sport group operates 309 outlets (127 Go Sport, 173 Courir and 9 Moviesport).
Management efficiencies, such as joint purchasing from all its shop formulas, dynamic sales programs and less inventories have to push its second half sales figures. Towards yearend Go Sport plans to open 14 new stores, including a Belgian Courir store. (FN)
