DUESSELDORFF, Germany (November 27) – Metro Group reported a 7.2% sales increase to € 12.36 billion in its third quarter, which ended on September 30. Of these foreign sales were up 10.6%. Operational profit climbed to € 188 million from € 62 million during the same period one year earlier. Net income came to € 66.3 million compared with € 36.8 million one year ago.
In the first nine months of its current fiscal year Metro saw its group sales rise 4.7% to € 36.23 billion. Of these foreign sales increased to 46.2% from 43.9% one year earlier. In Metro’s also bike-selling non-food specialty sector, net sales rose to € 8,269 million from € 7,394 million last year. Operational profit came to € 363.8 million and net income to € 76.8 million for the nine months period. Geographically leads Metro’s German operations with € 19.5 billion sales, followed by Western Europe with € 10.7 billion, Eastern Europe with € 533 billion and other countries with € 1.18 billion net sales in its nine months period. Overall Metro operates 2,299 stores in 25 countries with 235,000 employees. The Metro Group knows cash & carry, food-retail, non-food specialty and department store formats with brands Metro Cash & Carry, Kaufhof, Media Markt, Extra, Real, Parktiker, Saturn and Metro/Makro wholesale stores.
