BIELEFELD, Germany (August 18) – VDZ, the German association for independent bicycle dealers (IBDs), reports that bike business is picking up again in Germany. Especially the July 2003 sales figures of its members show spectacular results.
Thanks to the extraordinary sunny and warm weather conditions, the VDZ members can look back on satisfying results during the first seven months of 2003. While during the first six months of 2003 (compared with the same period in 2002) VDZ members reached an overall ‘black zero’ result; two-wheeler sales in July pushed the January to July figures to an overall plus of 3%. “In July many IBDs recorded a two-digit 10 to 20% sales increase,” said a happy Friedrich Thoben. The association’s general manager also points out that bicycle products are the clear winners: “The motorized segment is behind but also showed a positive development in July.” (JB)
