LONDON, UK (24th October) – Yesterday we reported about the Belgian distributor organisation Federvelo protesting against the ultra-cheap bikes on offer at Carrefour Hypermarkets (and the risk of DIY bike-‘mechanics’) Today the Association of Cycle Traders (UK) has a similar protest against Halfords who is offering sub – GBP150 bikes in boxes…to get them assembled would be an extra GBP 10. It seems Halfords have missed that in this way it is too easy to just wrap the box for Christmas and let any un-trained person put the bike together – with all the possible problems regarding safety and warranty as result…The company does offer a free safety check but it is not clear if this applies to bikes assembled by good-willing neighbours too…(MH)source:BikeBiz
