WIGAN, UK (October 16th) – JJB Sports, the British retailer is pulling the plug on its’ European stores. Last weekend the store in Rotterdam closed down just a few weeks after the one in Amsterdam. Apparently, the spending habits on the continent are very different from those in the UK. Also the company is holding advanced talks about selling its subsidiary TJ HUGHES, a chain of variety stores which were acquired some 2 years ago for £42,3million.The purchase of this company was always heavily criticized by the shareholders and was initiated by JJB’s chairman, David Whelan.
