KAMPALA, Uganda (March 4) – Twelve motorcyclists from Uganda start on their 6,000km long ride from Johannesburg back to Kampala. The ride is meant to raise awareness about the Aids scourge in Africa. Former South African President Nelson Mandela will flag off the bikers. The Uganda Bikers Association Chairman Bernard Runnebaum announced this yesterday. The ride, dubbed Aids Awareness and Charity Ride, will last about three weeks. “Biking is our hobby and we like being on the road, but this is not a joyride,” Runnebaum said stressing that they will be stopping in every capital city of the five countries they will ride through to deliver Aids awareness messages.
