MAARSSEN, Netherlands (March 2) – DC Heat and Design IQ have released details of a joint programme aimed at developing a new generation of heated clothing technology. DC Heat is working on new ways to apply heating elements to clothing. Instead of heating panels, the company is investigating ways of printing the heating elements directly onto lightweight fabrics that can be worn close to the body, making the concept of heated base layers entirely feasible. The company is also working on heated gloves and footwear. In conjunction with the William Lee Innovation Centre at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), the company has created a seamless battery-powered knitted glove liner.
