MAARSSEN, Netherlands (March 24) – The rising steel prices are having world wide effects on companies. Because the price for the raw material has shot up over the last 8 months, suppliers have to increase their prices all along the chain. Especially the smaller and medium large companies are experiencing extreme price-hikes. As they do not have the power to have stock-piled raw materials it will become increasingly difficult to ride out the storm. Over a 4 month period the price went up from €110 to €180 per ton. One of the quoted reasons is the frantic economic activity in China, which leads to the country buying up enormous amounts of raw materials. (MH)
