WASHINGTON, US – (June 15) The US deficit in global goods and services trade increased 3.8% in April from the previous month to $48.3 billion, setting a record high for the fifth consecutive month due to rising imports amid the continued US economic expansion and higher oil prices, the Commerce Department said Monday.
The US deficit in goods trade with Japan fell 5.2% to $6.3 billion, but the U.S. goods trade deficit with China surged 14.8% to $11.9 billion, the highest since last October. (MH)
