AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (July 21) – The location was chosen well for the announcement : the 23rd floor of the Amsterdam Okura hotel – as if to reflect the ‘high’ in results that Accell management wanted to share with the press. The total number of bikes sold over these first 6 months was up, but more importantly, so were turnover and profit.
In contradiction with the overall economy outlook, the Accell group has had a brilliant first half of 2004. Overall bike sales were 536.000 units while over the same period last year the company sold 477.000 units. This alone would be good news for stock owners, but the story continuous. Turnover was up 24% and profit soared with a 49% plus. All in all the Accell philosophy of sticking to quality brands, building on these and choosing your own battlefields has paid off. Refusing to get mixed-up in price-wars and instead selecting the markets and dealers that can support a quality product enables the company to better it’s results every year. And this year should hold some more in store, as the 100 year old Batavus brand plans some special actions to celebrate it’s birthday this September.(MH)
