MAARSSEN, Netherlands (July 20) – If anyone still doubted the influence of the weather on our trade, then Summer 2004 has taught him or her a lesson. After the brilliant sales results on 2003, and the subsequent shortages, Summer 2004 is showing something completely different. Weather conditions all over Europe are appalling, which has led to slipping sales figures.
According to the members of the Bike Europe Survey, their sales have reached a tremendous low – between 10 and 25% less than in the same period last year – and the end it not yet in sight. If the weather is as present, consumers will spend their money elsewhere, and vacations to sunny places are becoming more tempting by the hour…Also the low consumer-trust in our economy does not help at all…there are however exceptions, but you’ll have to read the full survey in the August issue of Bike Europe to find that out. How bad the weather actually is can be illustrated by the recent snowfall in Southern Germany, mid-July…(MH)
