Ljubljana, Slovenia – Tomi Sefman, general manager of Elan Bikes, has resigned at the end of last week. As he explains in a written statement he can not be responsible for the management of company any longer. Everything started five months ago, when Skimar, majority owner of Elan Bikes, got new leadership. Sefman says that they are continuously working in such away that puts the existence of Elan Bikes under question.

Director of Skimar Tevz Tavcar is saying that isn’t true and he is already dealing with Sefman’s successor. The new general manager of Elan Bikes is Aleksander Mokrovic, who came to the company after success in re-establishing some companies, between them also Elan Commerce in Zagreb, Croatia.

The fact is that public statements and rumours have weakened the reputation of Elan Bikes as a high-end handmade bike manufacturer. The competitors of course took the advantage of that. The strategic business plan that Elan Bikes made was not confirmed by the Skimar leadership, so they can’t start some projects. On the other hand, Skimar is saying that the plan was disappointing. Tavcar also says that the company is still working at a loss and the 2.7 million Euro profit is the result of property sales.

Skimar’s leadership is expecting a different sales politics from Elan Bikes. They will have to connect more with stores like Hervis, Intersport and Interspar which represent about half of Slovenian bicycle market. (GS)
