MAARSSEN, Netherlands – Side effects of Lance Armstrong’s TdF victories? Hard to say, but fact is that road bikes account for about 5 percent of all the bicycles sold in the US, and it is the fastest-growing segment in the industry. Road bike buyers pay an average of $1,194, almost three times as much as mountain bike buyers. But not just in the US the tables are turning in favour of road bikes (again) it seems that since people have lost interest in knobbly tyres, they have developed a renewed fervour for slicks.
