Dutch Bike Sales 2004: Up and Down
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Mar 24) – 18 million bicycles – that was the number of usable bikes in Holland in 2004. But sales are slowly slipping: from a record 1.517 million units in 2000, to 1.250 million in 2004. However, the 2004 total was slightly (2.5%) up compared to 2003. This was not the case for the sale at IBDs. The total number of bikes sold through dealers dropped 5.5% in 2004 tot a total of 1,036,000.
Still the amount of money the Dutch spent on their bikes is higher then elsewhere. In 2004, an average of € 584 was normal – and when looking at just the IBD’s, € 638 per bike sold was their score. A complete Market Report on bike sales in Holland is in Bike Europe’s April edition (publication date: April 20). (JO)
