SHENZHEN/KUNSHAN, China (Mar. 17) – Japanese-Taiwanese component maker SR Suntour is not only expanding its production with a new factory in Kunshan/China. The company but is also building a new factory at its existing site in Shenzhen/China.

The new Chinese Suntour factory in Kunshan will officially start production in April. Focus will be on the Japanese market as most of the bicycle products for nearby Japan are made in the wider Shanghai area. According to Suntour’s international sales manager David Tsai the Kunshan facility will produce transmission systems, dynamo hubs, roller brakes and cassettes: “We bought new machineries for our derailleur and shifter production. We want to increase this side of the business by using the opportunity Shimano offers with its delivery delays.”

At the same time SR Suntour Shenzhen is increasing its production space with an additional 3,900 square meters to a total of 18,500 square meters. According to Ikeda Yutaka, general manager of SR Suntour Shenzhen, the new building will be ready around the same time as the new factory in Kunshan: “The new hall will be home to painting/powder coating, fork assembly and will be used as a warehouse.” (JB)
