AMERSFOORT, Netherlands (August 16) – Dutch buyers group Bike Totaal (175 shops), has seen its turnover from retail sales grow with 3.9% in the first 6 months. Biretco (272 Profile, 80 Fietswereld and 5 Bonus Bikes shops) just announced that they have seen a plus too: 5% over all their Benelux trade. Quite an achievement, as the market is on a downward trend – overall, the Dutch bike market fell some 4.4%. Biretco’s German venture actually showed the biggest growth: 19.5% which is even more remarkable, given the general trend in that country. Reasons for the success of Bike Totaal can be attributed to good sales on Raleigh bikes, which they have adopted as ‘house brand’ and a very active communication scheme.
