GLASGOW, UK (Sep 22) – Bicycles are behind a big rise in road casualties, it was claimed yesterday. UK Police say large numbers of people are taking to bikes to get around and it has led to a dramatic increase in the number of cyclists killed or seriously injured in the last 10 years. And yesterday they launched a campaign to make cyclists and motorists take more care. Sergeant Simon Bradshaw said: “We are trying to educate both cyclists and motorists to be more aware of each other.” He added that officers would be quick to crack down on cyclists who flouted the rules of the road. Bradshaw said he was also concerned that not enough cyclists realised it was against the law to ride a bike with excess alcohol and they would be trying to get the message across.
