ROSMALEN, The Netherlands – In 2006 bike sales in Holland broke the 1.3 million units mark. No, it’s not record-breaking but getting close. In percentages in units and in turnover, the score for 2006 stands at 5% more to a total of slightly more than 1.3 million and 8% in terms of turnover. These numbers were announced by René Takens, next to Accell Group CEO also chairman of the Dutch industry association RAI Vereniging. As for the reason behind the 2006 success in sales, he said: “The fine weather that continued into the Fall and even in Winter as well as the fact that more people discover that urban traffic is more efficient with bikes than with cars.”
