Go Sport: Bigger Market Share, but Still in the Red

SASSENAGE, France – Provisional 2006 results of Groupe Go Sport were flat or slightly down, but the market shares of its subsidiaries Go Sport and Courir rose with 5.9 and 13.2% respectively in France, to the detriment of Decathlon and Foot Locker. The group posted a 6.7% sales increase to € 771.2 million (excluding VAT), with a loss before interest of € 11.9 million. Net debt was € 80.9 million. Go Sport stores in Belgium and Poland represented around 10% of the total turnover.  The Go Sport footwear chain Courir did well with its 13.2% growth.
Go Sport opened 4 new stores (one in Poland), 4 new Courir stores, 11 new franchise shops in the Middle East, and closed 12 stores. At the end of 2006 Go Sport Group had 181 Go Sport and 209 Courir shops. It will close its remaining 5 Moviesport shops this year. (Source: Sporting Goods Intelligence)
