Halfords Doubles Pre-tax Profits

REDDITCH, UK – Bicycle and car parts retailer Halfords is expected to report accelerated sales and pre-tax profits up by at least 7% to about € 113.8 million (GBP 82.8) for the year to 30 March. In the previous period the pre-tax profits was 3.6%. The final results will be published by Halfords on June 27.

The company, which sells one in every three bikes in the UK, saw like-for-like sales increase by 5.3 per cent over the year, with growth coming across all product categories.

Although Halfords is best known best for its car business, the company has also successfully experimented with new formats after opening standalone Bike Hut stores in Brighton and Putney. It now says there is potential for a further 50 specialist bike stores in the UK, with plans for six by Christmas.
